I am a photographer who has had an interest in photography for almost all my life.  As a young boy of about 8, I was using a Box Brownie camera to record family, pets and the surroundings on the farm in South Africa where I grew up.
While working the local radio station n Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1959, I bought my first SLR; it was a Japanese Miranda camera with a 50 mm lens.  In 1961 I moved to work in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia).  A friend and a work colleague showed me the basics of how to develop and print my own pictures. Of course at that time it was always black and white film that I used.  As  my skills improved I became an enthusiastic darkroom worker.  I read photography magazines to learn the craft and technicalities of using a camera.  However I knew very little about composition and the artistic aspects of photography at that time.  Nevertheless it was always my ambition to make images that I liked and would be pleased to display on the wall.
I moved to England in 1963 to pursue further studies in electronics and television engineering.  After that I was employed at the BBC and later in a computer and process control companies. When I got married my priorities changed and family life and children took over.  During this time serious photography was abandoned for work commitments and photography was limited to taking pictures of my children and family holidays.
When I retired I joined a Camera Club and my interest in photography revived and has almost become an obsession!  I learned a considerable amount from fellow club members and from the comments of judges who marked the prints we entered into competitions.  After a  year at the club, I became a committee member and also Program Secretary.   Some years later I was awarded club Photographer of the Year several times and also Print Photographer of the Year.
Coming from Africa, I saw the British countryside and coast with 'new-born' and wondering eyes.  I fell in love with landscape photography, which I have pursued ever since.
I am now a user of the Nikon range of cameras and currently own a Nikon D750 and the lenses I use are 50 mm, 24-120 mm, 70-300 mm 28-300 and 16-35 mm.
